Introduction
We have included a mixture of challenges, designed for a variety of ages and abilities. Many can be done from a seated position, some require a table, some are a little more active and we hope some can be enjoyed by residents in their rooms too. We have tried to keep the equipment required to a minimum and use items readily available as far as possible.
You are welcome to take part in as many or as few of the challenges as you wish.
Please feel free to invite family, friends and visitors to your home to take part with you. You may wish to arrange an Olympics themed event and complete a number of the challenges at this event, or you may wish to do the challenges one at a time over the course of the 6 weeks. Or you are welcome to do both. Groups in your community are also welcome to take part in the challenges at their meeting place and to feed in their scores to your team entry if it is not possible for them to visit the care home.

Dates for the Care Home Olympics
You are welcome to complete the challenges anytime between 1st July and 11th August and to repeat the challenges as many times as you like within this time to try and better your scores! The last date for participation will be Sunday 11th August (the closing day of the 2024 Paris Olympics).
Your team
Once you have decided on a team name – let us know. You can decide who your team participants will be, and these can change over the course of the Care Home Olympics. The Games are a fun event and a great way to include your residents, staff, volunteers, family, friends and the community. You can be flexible with your team, so changing team participants is encouraged – we want as many people as possible to be able to join in with
the fun! We also encourage you to make or choose a toy mascot and send us a picture (plus you will need this if you wish to take part in Challenge 5!).

Staying Safe
Please read the event instructions carefully and consider making any adaptations required for your care setting and the participants involved.
Please make sure that you have carried out the necessary risk assessments before taking part in each challenge and only include residents and members of your community for whom it is safe and appropriate. Please ensure that all residents and children are supervised whilst doing the challenges. Please also ensure that the equipment used for the challenges is safe for those taking part and make sure that small items are kept out of reach of children and those for whom these may present a choking risk.

Submitting your Scores
Please submit your scores by clicking the button below:
Or if you prefer, you can email your scores to [email protected]
Your team may decide to attempt an event several times over the course of the Games. You can then submit your best scores, or if you submit a score and later improve on this score, please just submit again and we will replace your entry with the new improved score. If you submit multiple scores for the same challenge, we will use the best score (only one score from each care home team will be entered for each challenge as each team can only win a maximum of one medal per challenge)
Please submit all scores by Monday 12th August for a chance to win a medal.

Medals
Gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded for each challenge. In the event that 2 or more care home teams achieve the same score for a challenge, names will be placed into a hat to decide which care home team receives the medal. Certificates will be awarded to the other care homes to celebrate their achievement.
There will also be special recognition medals awarded to individuals or groups who deserve special recognition - for example these medals may be awarded for outstanding achievement, overcoming a particular difficulty to take part, perseverance, outstanding effort, evidence of excellent team work, age of participants etc. Please let us know if you would like any participants from your home or community to be considered for a special recognition medal.

Associated activities
We would love for you to choose a team name and design a team flag and share this with us - but there is no pressure to if you are not able to do this.
You might also like to hold an opening and/or closing ceremony in your home and have Olympic inspired food (eg different coloured food representing the colours of the Olympic rings) - please share stories and photos of your events and activities if you are able.
Or why not test your sporting knowledge with an Olympic themed quiz?
And of course watch and get inspired by all the TV coverage of the different sports at the Paris Olympics which start on 26th July.

Keep in Touch
Please share stories and photos with us if you are able - either by email to [email protected] or tag us into your posts on Facebook (please tag “Embracing Age Hampshire”). We would love to hear how you are enjoying the challenges and please share your scores on Facebook too to get some friendly competition going amongst the care homes taking part! We will be sending out weekly emails to those taking part with news, updates and stories too so please send anything which we can include in these emails.
And finally...
We hope you enjoy taking part in the challenges and have a lot of fun together in your care home communities. Please spread the word to people and groups in your communities who would like to get involved and to other care homes who would like to take part too. We have set the start date as 1st July so that schools, preschools and children’s groups can be involved before they finish for the summer holidays, but as long as the challenges are completed by 11th August they can be started at any point over the 6 weeks.
Below are some resources to help you spread the word, which you can download by clicking on the buttons:
