Frequently Asked Questions

Where does the walk start and how do I get there?

We will meet at 9am on Saturday 14th September, outside the Brentford Gate of Kew Gardens, in the Ferry Lane Car Park, TW9 3AF. If you come by car you can pay to park in the car park, but bear in mind you'll need to get back there at the end of the walk.
If coming by public transport:
By bus
  • Route 65 and 391 stops at Kew Bridge (Stop Z), about 0.2 miles from Brentford Gate.
  • Routes 237 and 267 stop at Kew Bridge station (Stop S), about 0.4 miles from the Brentford Gate.
By train
  • Kew Bridge station is 0.4 miles from Brentford Gate, via Kew Bridge, and then walking along the river. South West Trains run services from Waterloo, via Vauxhall and Clapham Junction. There is no level access at Kew Bridge.
  • Richmond station has lift and level access. Take 65 or 391bus (in the direction of Ealing Broadway) to Kew Bridge (Stop Z). Brentford Gate is 0.2 miles away (about a 4 minute walk)

How easy is the walk and how long will it take?

That depends on how fast you walk and how many stops you have, but google estimates it as 3 hours and 15 mins with no stops. The Thames Path is a flat route and generally the paths are tarmacked, although it can get muddy in places if there has been wet weather.

What should I wear and what do I need to bring?

You will need to wear clothing appropriate for the weather - layers are always a good option, and bring a waterproof jacket if there is the risk of rain. Walking boots aren't essential, but a pair of comfortable shoes or trainers is a must!
Bring plenty to drink and snacks or a packed lunch.

Can children take part?

Children are very welcome to join in the walk - it will be a fun family day out, but under 16's need to be accompanied by an adult.

Is there a minimum sponsorship I need to raise?

There's no minimum sponsorship required to take part, but it's always good to have a goal. We recommend you aim for £10 a mile, so £100 overall. Some of you might want to aim higher, and for others lower might be preferable. We leave that up to you.
Have a look at our Sponsorship resources page for more advice.

How do I collect sponsorship money?

The easiest way to collect sponsorship money is online and we are registered with Virgin Money Giving. Click on that link for all the advice you need to set up a sponsorship page.
If you'd rather do it the old fashioned way with a sponsorship form, you can print one off from our sponsorship resources page.
