About Us

Embracing Age is Christian organisation founded in 2015 in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, to support older people. We're working towards a world where older people are valued, connected and full of hope, and we do this by combatting loneliness, mobilising volunteers, equipping churches and speaking out. Our projects include:

Care Home Friends - mobilising an army of volunteers to befriend and support care home residents.
Carers Connected - facilitating an online safe space for informal carers to give mutual support and encouragement, along with opportunitites to pray together.

A Brief History

Following the success of Care Home Friends in Richmond,  the project was a joint winner of the Cinnamon Project Lab in 2016, a national competition looking for ambitious church-based social action projects that could be replicated across the UK.

In 2017, we had our second project go live
, The Times heard about the project, and featured it in their newspaper and at Premier's Love Britain and Ireland awards, Care Home Friends was the runner up in the category for older people.

Over the next 3 years we would love to see 30 projects started across the UK. Before the pandemic we had about 9 church led projects either up and running or in the process of starting. Covid restrictions have meant that visiting has been unable to take place so we have been supporting care homes in other ways.

In September 2020 we started another large project across the Isle of Wight, where there are about 70 care homes. You can read about it here.

In January 2021 we started Carers Connected to support informal carers who were increasingly isolated by the pandemic lockdown.

Our Values

Christian values underpin the work of Embracing Age and we welcome older people of all faiths and none. We believe older people should be treated with dignity and deserve our honour and respect.
