John Flanner MBE
We are delighted to welcome John Flanner as an ambassador for Embracing Age.
Tell us a bit about yourself
Born in Birmingham in 1947, the oldest of four children and having a passion for playing and watching football, I went blind at the age of 19 and then found Jesus as my Saviour and Lord at the age of 21 on my one and only visit to Westminster Chapel.
Since then I married Sylvia and we had 49 wonderful years together, raising four children before her death in December 2018.
My life is proving to be a great adventure as I learn to follow the will of God for my life. I worked for many years in the Civil Service, mainly as an audio typist, but I did other things as well. I have written and published four autobiographical books since I turned 60 and am now working on my fifth one as well as having a weekly radio show at the age of 75.
What motivates you to be an ambassador for Embracing Age?
I am thrilled to be an ambassador for Embracing Age because I believe we still have a lot to offer this world in terms of sharing our life experiences with gratitude, thankfulness and a generosity of spirit.
What would you say you know now about living a happy and fulfilled life that you didn't know when you were 20 years old?
At the age of 20 I had just gone blind as the result of an hereditary condition and it felt like the end of the world. Meeting Jesus, however changed everything and I have grown year on year in my passion to share the love of God with all whom I come into contact.
