Leave a Legacy
Leaving a gift in your will is a wonderful way to make a lasting difference, and support the work of Embracing Age in working towards a world where older people are valued connected and full of hope.
We're all living longer thanks to advances in science and medicine, and sometimes making a will is the last thing we're thinking of. Did you know that between 2012 and 2017 the number of people living to be 100 rose by 85%! However, living longer doesn't necessarily mean we stay healthy and independent in our later years.
We want to make sure that people who become more dependent in later life still feel valued, and remain connected and full of hope. People like Susan, who spent the latter years of her life living in a care home with advancing dementia, and had no family or friends visiting her. Her weekly visits by an Embracing Age volunteer meant she had someone to talk to, and share enjoyable moments with, reading poetry and looking at old photographs. Even when her speech faltered, due to the dementia, she was able to join in the last line of well known poems: "And then my heart with pleasure feels and dances with the daffodils."
The gift of friendship is in your handsOur greatest desire is to always be able to mobilise trained volunteers to come alongside lonely care home residents like Susan in friendship and support, but to do that we need funding. Through the security of legacy donations you will help us ensure we are here to bring companionship to some of the oldest members of our society.
